Children’s National Hosptial

Almost everyone knows a child who has been a patient at Children’s National in Washington, DC. One patient in particular, Mattie Stepanek, made a profound impact on America, and the world, during his short life. The poet, philosopher and peacemaker died at 13 of a rare form of muscular dystrophy, but left behind a legacy captured in his six books of “Heartsongs” poetry. The doctors and nurses at Children’s National fought bravely to save Mattie’s life–as they did to save Jaclyn Friedlander’s life–and those of millions of other children. Because of this commitment to saving the lives of our Nation’s children and those from all over the world, as inspired by Mattie’s dream for a better, healthier, more peaceful world, Heartsongs Fund was founded in 2001. Mattie died in 2004 – but his legacy lives on. We dream big – just like Mattie.

Please consider one of the sponsorship opportunities to help make this dream a reality and add to the over $1,000,000 that Heartsongs has raised to date.
Children’s National is a 501(c)(3) and your contribution is tax deductible to the extent of the law.

The Hospital receives 100% of the net proceeds. Mattie couldn’t do it alone and neither can we.
